Ash 6648 - Right Back
Ash 6648 – Right Back

Ash  Fuinseog Fraxinus excelsior. The smooth grey bark and tall open domed shape distinguish this tree from afar. The deciduous leaves are pinnate with 9 – 13 leaflets. Masses of inconspicuous flowers are borne in late spring to be followed in autumn by bunches of winged seed in autumn. Black buds and a brown trunk with fissured bark identify the tree in winter. Ash is native in Ireland and the timber is used to make hurleys. (Source: Dr Mary Forrest, UCD).
